Biofluids Extractions & Collections

Blood

Geneticist collects up to 40 ml of whole blood from one donor. Blood samples can be collected in:

  • K2-EDTA tubes to obtain plasma samples
  • SST tubes to obtain serum samples
  • Heparin tubes to obtain PBMC samples
  • PAXgene RNA tubes for RNA extraction
  • PAXgene DNA tubes for DNA extraction
  • CPT tubes for PBMC collection
  • Others (upon request)

All these sample types can be collected from one donor. Geneticist provides frozen Blood Fractions samples in 0.5 ml to 5 ml aliquots. Viable PBMC samples are available as well. Biological Fluids samples are collected according to Geneticist SOPs. Geneticist can perform custom collection using clients’ SOPs, protocols, and collection tubes.

Clinical Conditions

  • Oncology
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Coronary Heart/Artery diseases
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Central Nervous System diseases
  • Infectious diseases
  • Hematological diseases
  • Benign conditions
  • Healthy donors

Bone Marrow

Geneticist collects Bone Marrow aspirates (0.5 – 3 ml) from patients with Hematological malignancies and from Normal donors. Separation and freezing down of viable WBC are performed using Geneticist SOP or SOP provided by clients. FFPE WBC blocks preparation can be also performed.

Clinical Conditions

Hematological malignancies:

Leukemia:

  • Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
  • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
  • Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)

Lymphoma:

  • Hodgkin’s disease
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Multiple Myeloma

Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)

Blood/BM samples can be collected at different stages of a disease.

Other Biofluids

Geneticist provides a broad range of other human body fluids such as Urine, Saliva, Sputum, Synovial and Cerebrospinal fluid. Collection protocols have been developed and are available for review. Modifications to collection protocols can be made for custom procurement projects. To inquire about samples availability in our Biorepository or to discuss your custom project please contact our office or send us an inquiry via e-mail

FFPE Tissues

Specimen collection

All FFPE tissue samples are collected by certified medical pathologists and are fixed in 10% neutral-buffered formalin within 30 minutes of surgery excision. Tissue samples are fixed for 16 hours maximum and embedded then in IHC-grade paraffin. Standard sample size is 1×1x0.5 cm, but can vary depending on the nature of a disease and tissue type. The fixation agent and the embedding media can be customized upon request. All FFPE blocks collections are performed following Geneticist’s SOP.

Clinical Conditions:

  • Oncology
  • Hematological diseases
  • Benign conditions
  • Healthy donors

Sample collection formats

Biological samples are offered in several formats to meet the needs of biomedical research:

Individual samples

Geneticist offers individual FFPE tissue samples, diseased or normal. FFPE blocks from Metastatic Lymph Nodes and Distant Metastases tissue specimens are available.

Matched Pairs

  • Diseased/tumor and normal adjacent tissues from a single donor are available in formalin fixed formats
  • Paired FFPE block and frozen tissue samples from a single donor
  • Diseased/tumor and metastatic tissue samples from the same donor are offered in formalin fixed formats

Four Tissue sets

  • Fresh frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumor and normal adjacent tissue specimens from one donor

Geneticist offers various Biological fluids (serum, plasma, whole blood, PBMC, urine, saliva, etc.) collected from the same patient in addition to tissue samples.

FFPE blocks with >5 years follow-up information

Geneticist provides FFPE blocks from cancer patients with over 5 years clinical follow-up information.
